Kass Ilagan Interview

Kass Ilagan’s first release on the label is out now. Awesome. Read more about that here. Now, we have Kass answering a few questions.

Deeper Manila: How old are you?
Kass Ilagan: 26, but I don’t think it matters. Hahaha.

DM: How did we meet?
KI: Through Frequency Manila. Hahaha.

DM: What got you into Deeper Manila?
KI: Passion for house music.

DM: How did you start and come into the house music scene?
KI: I think it was Frankie Knuckle’s A/X mixed CD that inspired me to spin. But first house track I listened to was Armand Van Helden’s Funk Phenomena. I used to do bands so it was the logical thing to do to make my own tracks.

DM: What do you think distinguishes you amongst the rest?
KI: My charming wit or my pleasing personality. Hahaha.

DM: Which style or genre of music do you feel the most comfortable with at the moment?
KI: Deep house really makes my feet move. I also like chill out and lounge.

DM: Where do you get your inspiration? Does it differ from each track/project?
KI: Yup it does, one track I think I just did because I couldn’t sleep, then one track I’ve done because there was this tune in my head.

DM: Describe your sound. What influences your music?
KI: I don’t really know what sub-genre my music is but I would like to call it head boppers. I’m very much influenced by San Francisco based house with the likes of Kaskade, Miguel Migs, and also by Frankie Knuckles. Also, some alternative rock and a bit of everything.

DM: Has music always been part of your life?
KI: Yes, always.

DM: House/electronic/dance music keeps on changing constantly. How do you keep your sound pure?
KI: I do so by being who I am, knowing what my limits are and avoiding who I am not. I know what sound I like/want but it doesn’t mean I don’t like other music or genre.

DM: Do you have a favorite venue you like to gig at?
KI: Warehouse 135 had a good system, Boracay is still the best, because it’s a beach/party island which I think is like ibiza.

DM: Describe the house/electronic/dance music scene in the Philippines.
KI: Pretty good actually, and has a lot of potential. There are a lot of things to be done for it to improve, needs work in other words.

DM: Favorite food?
KI: Pizza! Like a ninja turtle.

DM: Thanks
KI: Anytime.
